Key products that will be featured during this Naim Open Day include the state-of-the-art 500 Series reference system, the superb new DAC, the newly released Uniti System (comprising of the UnitiServe, UnitiQute and Uniti), the highly acclaimed HDX and the class-leading Ovator 600 Speakers.  However, the product that will inevitably attract a great deal of interest is …….  aargh!! – we are not allowed to say as this information is embargoed until the day.  What we can say is that this will be a world-wide first public viewing and audition of this very welcome new addition to Naim’s acclaimed range!

The 500 series represents the absolute pinnacle of Naim design and engineering. These products are not constrained in any way: they are simply manufactured with the sole aim of being the finest available.

Each of the 500 Series components features some seemingly extreme engineering: for example, the Digital-to-Analogue Converters in the CD555 are situated in their own “quiet room”; an isolated environment within the player that shields them from all disturbances. The player is fed by the suitably massive, triple-regulated, 555 PS external power supply – with discrete digital and analogue outputs – housed in a separate, low resonance case. Indeed, heavyweight dedicated separate power supplies also come with the NAC 552 preamplifier and the NAP 500 power amplifier. At the other end of the scale, the wiring harnesses in each component are scrupulously arranged and cable-tied to maximise signal transfer while minimising interference, distortion, and noise. No effort is spared in our quest for the finest performance; even to the extent of collaborating with a semiconductor fabricator for 6 years to produce the perfect output transistor for the NAP 500.

All this obsessive over-engineering and attention to detail with the minutiae of every aspect of the design contributes to a musical performance that is nothing short of flawless and often described as ‘magical’ by the most discerning listeners and professional reviewers.

The performance of each individual element is, we believe, unsurpassed, but when the three are combined they form a union that is truly magical in its breathtaking ability to connect you with the music.

The 500 Series began with the introduction of the fabulous NAP 500 power amplifier, a two-box 140W design that could deliver traditional Naim Reference-level performance into any loudspeaker load, even over prolonged periods. The range subsequently expanded with the introduction of the NAC 552 preamplifier, which we consider to be the finest preamplifier in the world, and the equally superb, state-of-the-art CD555 CD player and 555 PS power supply.

The LS3 from Runco projects its image onto a Screen Research fixed frame, acoustically transparent screen. Ideally, with the large images possible with a projection screen, loudspeakers need to be placed behind the screen. This presents obvious problems. A conventional solution is to micro-perforate the screen and apply acoustic correction to the audio signal. With the advent of fixed pixel projectors, the regular pattern of holes in the screen can coincide with the image matrix, creating a disturbing visual effect, moiré.

ClearPix2 solves both of these issues in one fabric. The fabric’s woven construction avoids moiré and provides an acoustically transparent structure with minimal insertion loss and no need for acoustic correction. At the same time, ClearPix2 maintains perfect color balance and a uniform white field, with no hot spots for the ultimate video performance. Such are the performance levels of ClearPix2 for both audio and video that it is certified to both THX and ISF standards. Behind the screen we have placed 3 Artcoustic Spitfire monitors and 3 Arcoustic Spitfire Subwoofers. The Spitfire Monitor is based on the powerful DF75-55 X2 but with a more compact form and durable finish ideal for use where the aesthetics are less crucial i.e. behind a dedicated, fixed cinema screen. The Spitfire Monitor, like the DF75-55 X2, is one of the most versatile full-range models in the Artcoustic range. It is equally at home in a high-end hi-fi or home cinema system, or in a professional cinema / screening room up to 500 cubic

We are extremely pleased to be awarded this much coveted industry award for our installation at Club Woodham, adding our first Artcoustic award for Commercial Installs to our growing collection of Artcoustic Domestic Awards.

The main brief for this project, which was part of an extensive upgrade to the facilities by the owners, was to provide TV via Sky HD to three Plasma screens and a large screen projection system as well as audio to these areas, this includes a full high performance 5.1 system.

Equipment included of course Artcoustic speakers along with an Artcoustic Subwoofer. The install was on a very tight deadline as the venue was due to open; our professional install team worked tirelessly and completed their task within the deadline. A very satisfied customer was the result, with a very special and successful opening night. We are sure they will continue to enjoy great success with some very busy days and evenings, especially with the world cup getting ever closer.

The Naim DAC marks a technical milestone comparable to their first CD player, the CDS. The CDS demonstrated that CD replay and lifelike music reproduction were not mutually exclusive. Now, the Naim DAC demonstrates that the jitter and noise that bedevil traditional external digital to analogue converters can be overcome and a new route to the real enjoyment of music opened.

The Naim DAC provides eight S/PDIF inputs, two USB inputs, and is capable of handling audio data sampled at up to 768kHz and with up to 32bit resolution. It not only brings all the digital inputs together into the analogue domain, but does so with a level of performance that can compete with the finest from any Naim CD player to provide unrivalled musical fulfillment. Listening to the Naim DAC is a revelation. Music, whether its source be an iPod, a CD or a high-resolution data file, is presented afresh, with more definition, more insight, more warmth, and simply more of those hard-to-define clues of rhythm, melody and emotion that distinguish the real thing from pale imitation. The Naim DAC is an advance that brings real music in the home closer to reality than ever before.

If exceptional music making is the first hallmark of the Naim DAC, the second is versatility. Versatility comes thanks to S/PDIF inputs that can accommodate either optical or coaxial formats and USB inputs that can accommodate memory sticks and Apple iPod and iPhone models. It arises also from the numerous Naim system upgrades that the DAC makes possible. Simultaneously with its introduction, the CDX2 and CD5 XS CD players have gained S/PDIF outputs and can now benefit significantly from use with the DAC. With the addition of a DAC, existing preamplifiers can be incorporated into digital audio systems.

The Naim DAC can be controlled by a Naim preamplifier remote control, seamlessly integrating analogue and digital inputs across the two units. The DAC becomes an extension of the preamplifier. And when a USB stick, iPod or iPhone is docked, the DAC front panel input buttons transform to operate as playback controls.

Ground breaking technology and digital audio engineering however are purely academic. Listening to the Naim DAC is something else entirely. Startling in its clarity, arresting in its detail, beguiling in its warmth and inspiring in its rhythm, the Naim DAC seduces from the first note.
