The Apollo-R has arrived

A New Year is upon us and Rega have already set a new standard in CD playback with the release of the new amazing Apollo-R CD Player.

The original Apollo CD player launched in 2005. It was a huge success selling approaching 20,000 units worldwide. The Apollo was a unique player featuring Rega’s own software and control system ensuring no other manufacturers player could sound the same. This key element is carried forward and improved into Apollo-R.

Development of the analogue, digital and control domains ensured direct improvements of both analogue and digital outputs making the Apollo-R a perfect partner for the Rega Brio-R amplifier and an ideal ‘CD format’ front-end for the Rega DAC. The Apollo-R internal circuitry has also been improved by tightening the PCB layout.

Panasonic 3D Projector Now on Display

The Panasonic PT-A5000E 3D projector is now on demonstration atr our Chelmsford branch.

New up to 480-Hz Compatible LCD Panels
The PT-AT5000’s Full-HD LCD panels provide more brightness with higher aperture ratio. The panels are also designed for 480Hz processing capability for brighter 3D image. These high-precision panels use vertically aligned liquid crystal molecules with inorganic alignment layers. When no voltage is applied, the molecules are aligned perpendicular to the glass substrate, so there is minimal light leakage, providing higher contrast.

300,000:1 Contrast Ratio
The Pure Contrast Plates in the PT-AT5000 use a high-precision crystalline material that is carefully matched to the characteristics of the LCD panels to effectively correct the passage of light exiting the panels. This enables the projector to block unwanted light leakage and successfully increases the dynamic range. It works together with the Pure Color Filter Pro and Dynamic Iris Pro to achieve an astounding contrast ratio of 300,000:1.

Rich & Vibrant Colours
The optical filter optimizes the light spectrum from the UHM projector lamp, helping to produce deeper blacks while improving purity levels in the three primary colors (red, green and blue). This advanced filter system improves color purity to cover a range that extends from the HDTV standard (Rec. 709 mode)*1 to the color gamut used in digital cinema*2. This gives images the deep, rich coloring that distinguishes movie images.

Motion Blur Reduction in 2D/3D
Frame Creation 2 – A double-speed frame interpolation display for 2D viewing, and also in 3D viewing, greatly improves the clarity of motion images, reproducing sharp and clear images for fast moving scenes in sports and action movies. For 24p signal input, four frames are calculated and interpolated for each existing frame, to enable 5x speed (120-Hz) display.

Precisely Tuned 3D Projection
The PT-AT5000 uses frame sequential technology for 3D image projection. When viewing 3D content, signals from the PT-AT5000’s built-in infrared transmitter precisely control the left and right shutters of the active 3D eyewear, which can be shared with VIERA 3D TVs.

2x Optical Power Zoom/focus Lens
A 2x optical power zoom/focus lens and a lens shift function together make it possible to project a 120″ picture from as close as 3.6 meters to the screen or as far as 7.2 meters away. In addition, the image can be shifted ±100% vertically, and ±26% horizontally. This gives you outstanding setup flexibility. If you choose to ceiling-mount the projector, you can zoom and focus by remote control.

Record Cleaning Service now available at Rayleigh

Do you love the sound quality that vinyl has to offer, but not the ‘Snap Crackle & Pop’ often present on older (and sometimes new) records? Well now you can salvage those discs that you may have consigned to the ‘Do Not Play’ pile, as well as improving overall sound from your entire record collection.

The Rayleigh store now offers a Record Cleaning Service using a Moth MkII Pro machine. This excellent machine cleans the vinyl disc using a special wet cleaning cycle which flushes dirt and mould out of the vinyl groove and is then removed by a high efficiency vacuum system into a drainable reservoir. The results are instantly audible, with less static, background noise and none of those annoying pops!

Dynavector P-75 MkII sets the stage

We have been using the Dynavector P75-MKII Phono stage in our demonstration room over the last few weeks in conjunction with the Origin Live Calypso & Sovereign Mk II Turntables and we are starting to realise what amazing value- for- money product this little box is. It’s compact and unassuming casework gives little to suggest the benefits it can add to a vinyl based system. It is custom loadable to match virtually any Moving Coil cartridge to allow full flexibility in getting the best performance from the Turntable.

The P-75 mkII also includes the patent PE (phono enhancing) circuit designed by Dr Tominari to dramatically improve the performance of low output moving coil cartridges. This circuit is designed specifically to get the best from moving coil cartridges by short circuiting them with zero ohms and then taking the current rather than the voltage produced. It’s a radical approach that Dynavector claims reduces distortion caused by non linearities within the magnet and results in a more linear result. Having tried this with several of Dynavectors own cartridges, we can report that the differences are more than subtle - the PE mode gives greater tonal richness and reveals more of the acoustic space that the recording was made in.

By a simple arrangement of jumper settings all conventional, MM, MI, high and low output cartridges are catered for.
